Durham College women’s volleyball program earns provincial recognition – All four DC teams provincially ranked

NORTH YORK, Ont. – The Durham College women’s volleyball team earned top honours for their performance last week as they have been named the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Team of the Week.

The Lords picked up a trio of 3-0 victories last week, including a sweep of their Ottawa swing trip. The green and gold kicked off their three games in three day tour at home, handily defeating the George Brown Huskies 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-18), before heading out on the road to best the Algonquin Thunder 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-21). A stop at La Cite concluded the Lords winning week, leaving the nations capital with the final 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-16) victory of 2009.

The spotlight has been shining on the entire Durham Lords varsity program this season as all four teams in action (basketball and volleyball) are currently provincially ranked.

After being over-looked for several weeks by the seeding committee, the Lords men’s volleyball program finally jumped into the rankings as they made this week’s biggest move entering at the seventh position. After starting the season 0-2, the Lords have knocked off seven straight victories and are tied for second in the East Region.

Sitting alone in first place of the East Region standings with a 9-1 record is the women’s volleyball team, who jumped up two spots in the rankings to move into the fourth position.

Pulling off a 2-0 week and upsetting the No. 4 nationally ranked St. Lawrence Vikings moved the Lords men’s basketball team up one spot into eighth position in the rankings. The women’s basketball team remained in the tenth position, as they have held a spot in the rankings for six consecutive weeks.
