Durham College tops in the province heading into the holidays
Women’s Volleyball
Game One: Durham defeated Algonquin 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-21)
Game Two: Durham defeated La Cite 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-16)
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's volleyball team picked up their third win in as many days as they swept their road trip in Ottawa this weekend.
The Lords defeated the Algonquin Thunder on Friday night by a final score of 3-0, and followed that up with a 3-0 win over the La Cite Coyotes on Saturday afternoon. The Lords also soared to a 3-0 win against George Brown College at home on Thursday evening.
The Lords are 9-1 heading into the holiday break and are tied with the Nipissing Lakers with the best records in the OCAA.
Durham has been dominant in the first half of the season dropping only six sets over ten matches. The Lords have picked up seven 3-0 sweeps over their opponents, which includes their last four games.
The Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre will be the place to be for women’s volleyball in the new year as the Adidas Cup is set to take place from January 8-9, 2010. Ten teams from across Canada will be looking to knock of the Humber Hawks who come into the tournament as the defending champions.
Women's volleyball captain Mandi Doris (Ajax, Ont.) is taking part in the Olympic Torch Run. The big day for Doris is on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 as she will be carrying the torch for approximately 300 metres along Edward St. in Newcastle, Ont. at 2:20 p.m. in front of friends, family and other proud Canadians getting a chance to look at the Olympic flame. Don't forget to sign up for the spirit bus at the CRWC front desk.
