Durham College picks up their seventh straight victory

Durham defeated Algonquin 3-1 (25-21, 25-17, 22-25, 25-22)
Durham defeated La Cite3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-22)

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's volleyball team picked up their sixth and seventh straight conference victories as they won two games in Ottawa over the weekend.

Up against the defending OCAA champion Algonquin College Friday night, the Lords managed to pull out a 3-1 victory to move into a tie with the powerhouse Thunder at the time for second place in the East Region standings.

On Saturday afternoon, the Lords swept the La Cite Coyotes 3-0 to earn their seventh straight victory heading into the holiday break.

The Lords are 7-2 this season, tied with Loyalist College (7-2) for second place, who defeated Algonquin (6-3) on Saturday. All three teams are chasing the undefeated Seneca Sting (9-0) for first place in the East Region, with the top two teams at the end of the regular season earning a bye to the OCAA championship in February.

Setter Jeff Torraville (Oshawa, Ont.) had a great weekend distributing the ball from the setter position. Mike Goulding (Oshawa, Ont.) led the way in total offence on Friday night with 12 kills and one ace. Steve Clarey (Baltimore, Ont.) had nine kills and three aces while Jamie Mayer (Pentanguishene, Ont.) had seven kills are four aces.

The Lords will return to action on January 8, 2010 as they take part in the Fleming Invitational. Durham is the defending invitational champions after defeating Sheridan in last year’s finals.
