DURHAM WOMEN’S FASTBALL WRAP UP THEIR ROAD TRIP IN ROCHESTER WITH A WIN

ROCHESTER, NY –
On day two of the Durham Lords women’s fastball exhibition series with Monroe Community College of Rochester, NY, the green and gold played outstanding ball over two games. The team managed to come away with their first win of the season beating the three time defending National Junior College Champions in the final game of the series.

Earlier in the day, Monroe picked up their third straight victory over Durham as they edged out the Lords 1-0 in a defensive struggle. The bats came alive in the second game of the doubleheader as the Lords beat the Tribunes 7-4.

The weekend series against Monroe was a great start to the season for Durham as they were able to evaluate some new talent in the lineup while getting some action in before heading into the start of the OCAA regular season.

The Lords showed significant signs of improvement from last season against Monroe as the Tribunes outscored Durham 21-3 in four contests last season.

This will not be the last time Durham will meet up with Monroe this season as the Tribunes will return the trip to Oshawa for the annual Can-Am Classic scheduled to take place from September 20-21.

GAME ONE SUMMARY

Monroe defeated Durham 1-0

Game one was a defensive struggle with both team’s aces on the mound (Danielle Smith pitched for Durham while Lindsey Grace started for Monroe). Smith threw an excellent game for the Lords going the distance, allowing only four hits while striking out five batters. The only blemish in the game for Durham was a fourth inning run, giving Monroe a 1-0 lead. All-American pitcher Lindsey Grace was on her “A” game as she pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout picking up her second win over the Lords in as many days.
