DC and George Brown Play to a 3-3 Draw

Men's Soccer: Durham tied George Brown 3-3

Toronto, Ont. –
It was a wild game at Lamport Stadium in Toronto on Tuesday as the Durham Lords men’s soccer team pulled out a 3-3 tie against the defending OCAA silver medalist George Brown Huskies. Today’s match-up was a rematch from last Friday night at Vaso’s Field as the Huskies escaped with a 2-0 win over the Lords.

Durham is now 4-3-1 in conference action and sit tied for second place with the Seneca Sting (4-2-1) with 13 points apiece. The two teams will square off on Saturday, October 4 in North York at 4:15 p.m. With a win, Durham can sit alone in second place and earn season sweep over the Sting. The top two teams in each region move on to the quarterfinal round.

The Lords came out with something to prove in the opening stages of the game as they took an early 2-0 lead with goals from Nick Zdravkovski and Kyle Ryan at the seventh and ninth minute mark respectively. As quickly as Durham gained an advantage, George Brown stormed back as they leveled the game at 2-2 with goals at the 11 and 13 minute mark. The teams play even for the remainder of the half and head into the break tied after a wild opening 45 minutes.

The teams remained tied for the majority of the second half until Durham striker Nick Zdravkovski scored his second of the game and sixth of the season to give Durham a 3-2 lead at the 80th minute. Once again, Durham could not hold onto the lead as George Brown found a way to tie things up as they got a late goal to even the game at 3-3. After the referee’s final whistle, the teams remained tied, each earning a well deserved point.

Durham head coach Stan Bombino was impressed with his team’s performance in the game compared to Friday night’s match-up. He described the tie as a total team effort enroute to earning a big point in the standings.
