Round One is in the Books at the OCAA Championship – Durham Sits in Third Place

Morrisburg, Ont. – The top golfers across the province tee’d off for round one of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) golf championship on Tuesday at the Upper Canada Golf Club in Morrisburg, Ont. The entire field managed to get the round finished before the heavy rain hit and Durham College sits in third place heading into the final round of play on Wednesday.

Durham’s alternate Justin Knaggs is making some noise on the leaderboard as he sits in fourth place, three strokes off the lead as Humber’s James Castle and Mike Zizek shot matching 70’s in the opening round. Castle is the 2007 CCAA National Champion. Robert Lewis of Durham is also in the hunt for the individual title as he shot 74 on the day, four strokes behind the leaders.

The Lords shot a team total of 307 on day one, with Robert Lewis leading the way with the team low round of 74. The Lords are in contention to win a medal and even move up in the standings as they are only 15 strokes behind the leading Humber Hawks and Niagara Knights. A top three finish on Wednesday would mark the Lords seventh medal in eight years in the team competition.

”I am pleased with the team’s performance today,” commented head coach Mike Duggan. “If our team pulls through and wins a medal tomorrow, it will be a major accomplishment as our team.”
