Lords Go on a Scoring Spree Highlighted by a Four Goal Performance From Katie Watts
Women’s Soccer: Durham defeated La Cite 7-0
Ottawa, Ont. – Durham College freshman Katie Watts (Oshawa, Ont.) continues to shine in her first season in the OCAA as she scored four goals on Saturday afternoon, leading the Lords to a 7-0 win over the La Cite Coyotes.
Watts has ten goals in the first five games of her career, averaging 2.00 goals per game (GPG). If she continues at this rapid pace in the six remaining games, she will smash the OCAA single season scoring record. The current record of 18 goals in a season is currently shared by Denise Morey of St. Lawrence College (1991) and Durham’s own Laura Dixon (2003).
Jennifer Michalicka (Pickering, Ont.) opened up scoring in the game with her third goal this season. Also in the opening half, Watts picked up her first of the day to give the Lords a 2-0 half-time lead.
In the second half, the Lords scored early and often as Watts tallied three more goals giving her four on the day. Erin Bodashefsky (Oshawa, Ont.) and Brittany Micucci (Newmarket, Ont.) also picked up single goals for Durham to give them the 7-0 win, their second shutout of the season.
Micucci, who scored her 29th career goal on a penalty kick, is now two goals shy of moving up into fifth place in the OCAA all-time scoring books. Morey currently occupies the fifth position with 31 career goals for the Vikings.
The stage is now set for a showdown on Wednesday night at Vaso’s field as the number one ranked Seneca Sting will visit Durham College in a battle for first place in the OCAA. Seneca has their sights set on snapping the Lords unbelievable unbeaten streak which has now been extended to 51 game beginning in the 2002 season. Game time for the much anticipated game is at 6 p.m.
