Big weekend for women’s fastball on campus!!!
Home opener and CAN-AM Classic to take place
Oshawa, Ont. – It is a big weekend on campus for the Durham College women’s fastball team as the Lords home opener will take place on Friday night followed by the CAN-AM Classic scheduled to run over the weekend.
The Lords are set to face Mohawk College on Friday night at 7 p.m. for their 2008 home opener at Durham Field! It will be a rematch of last year’s OCAA Championship final, in which Durham won their 14th provincial title with a 2-0 victory over the Mountaineers.
There will be plenty of festivities planned throughout the evening. Durham College President Don Lovisa will be on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch and former fastball players will be taking part in an alumni game beginning at 5 p.m. Minor fastball teams in attendance will also receive a free hot dog, chips and pop courtesy of the women’s fastball team.
There will be plenty of fastball action on Saturday and Sunday as well as the CAN-AM Classic will be taking place on campus. The annual fastball event has a long-lasting tradition of being one of the top-fastball tournaments at the collegiate level. This year’s tournament is no exception as the three-time defending NJCAA Division III national champion Monroe Tribunes will travel from Rochester, NY to attend the tournament. Top teams from the OCAA are also taking part as the Durham Lords, Seneca Sting and Mohawk Mountaineers look to win the prestigious title (complete schedule below).
