Watts Records a Hat Trick in a 7-0 Romp Over the Centennial Colts

Women’s Soccer: Durham defeated Centennial 7-0

Oshawa, Ont. –
Durham College freshman Katie Watts (Oshawa, Ont.) scored three goals for the Lords as they cruised to a 7-0 victory over the Centennial Colts on Tuesday night.

Watts recorded the Lords second hat trick in as may games as she followed up Brittany Micucci’s (Newmarket, Ont.) three goal performance in the Lords 4-1 victory over St. Lawrence College this past weekend.

The two-time defending OCAA Champions are now 3-0 in conference action and 4-0 overall this season, sitting in a tie for first place in the Central East region standings with the Seneca Sting. Durham also extends their unbeaten streak at home to 26 straight games.

Durham controlled play right from the opening whistle as they showcased accurate passing and quick ball movement which in turn led to some excellent scoring opportunities. Watts opened up scoring at the ten minute mark and followed it up with two more tallies in the first half. Watts has had an excellent start to her collegiate career as she has recorded five goals in the first three games.

Rounding out scoring for Durham was freshman Katy Long (Cameron, Ont.) who scored a goal in each half while Jennifer Michalicka (Pickering, Ont.) scored two second half markers. For both players, it was their first two goals of the season.

Ashley Visser (Uxbridge, Ont.) and Kylie Bracken (Ajax, Ont.) split time in net for the Lords as they landed Durham’s first shutout of the season.

Durham will now travel to Ottawa for a road-trip against the La Cite Coyotes and Algonquin Thunder before heading home to take on the Seneca Sting on Wednesday, September 24 at 6 p.m. Seneca and Durham both share 3-0 records and sit 1-2 in the OCAA rankings.
