Durham Fastball Sweeps Mohawk College in a Championship Rematch
Game One - Durham defeated Mohawk 9-2
Game Two - Durham defeated Mohawk 7-5
Hamilton, Ont. – The Durham Lords women’s fastball team picked a pair of wins to open up OCAA conference play as they defeated the Mohawk Mountaineers 9-2 and 7-5 in doubleheader action Thursday night. The teams last squared off in the 2007 OCAA Championship final with Durham winning their 14th provincial title by a 2-0 margin.
The pair of wins extends the Lords winning streak over OCAA opponents to 16 games. Their winning streak against the Mohawk Mountaineers is also extended to 16 games, dating back to the 2003 CAN-AM Classic when Mohawk last defeated Durham.
Durham is now 2-0 in conference action and sit in first place during the early stages of the regular season. The team also leveled their overall season record to 3-3 with the pair of wins. The Lords will next hit the field on Tuesday night as they head to North York to face on the Seneca Sting. First pitch in the game will be at 6:30 p.m.
Friday, September 19 marks the big night for the Lords as it is their 2008 home opener at Durham Field. Durham College President Don Lovisa will be on hand to throw out the traditional President’s first pitch First pitch will take place 7 p.m.
You might also notice some familiar faces at the game as former DC fastball players will be taking part in an alumni game prior to varsity action. The home opener will also be team appreciation night, where any local player who comes out to the game will receive a free hot dog, pop and chips.
