Perfection for Durham Lords Fastball – Next Up: OCAA Championship!!!

Game One: Durham defeated Conestoga 6-2
Game Two: Durham defeated Conestoga 12-1

Season Records Set:
- Erin Dewey (Port Hope, Ont.) tied the Hits in a season record (25)
- Erica Dewey (Port Hope, Ont.) tied the Runs in a season record (22)

Oshawa, Ont. – The Durham Lords women’s fastball team finished off a perfect 12-0 regular season with two wins on Thursday night as they defeated Conestoga College in doubleheader action at Durham Field. Both games were a total team effort from Durham as they came up with a 6-2 victory in game one and a 12-1 win in game two.

The perfect record marks the ninth time in twenty-eight years that Durham has finished the regular season without a loss. The Lords will look to win gold next weekend (October 17-18) as they travel to St. Clair College for the 2008 OCAA Championship. Durham has won 14 overall provincial titles since joining women’s fastball in 1981.

The Lords offence has been remarkable all season long and the numbers show it. Durham finished the regular season with 120 total runs to lead the league, averaging ten runs per game.

Tonight was a very special night for Erica Dewey and her sister Erin Dewey (Port Hope, Ont.) as they matched OCAA season long records at the plate. With five runs scored on the night, Erica increased her total to 22 runs this season, tying the all-time mark set by Shannon Glover of Mohawk in 2002). Her sister, Erin, also matched a single season record as she tied the mark of 25 hits in a season, which was also set by Glover in 2002.

On the mound, it was Danielle Smith (Oshawa, Ont.) and Karie Neddo (Whitby, Ont.) picking up the wins for Durham. The two aces have been a key factor in Durham’s success this season, as they both have matching 6-0 records and have held opponents to only 37 runs in twelve games.

Durham will enter the OCAA Championship as the team to beat, with St. Clair (Windsor, Ont.), Mohawk (Hamilton, Ont.) and Conestoga (Kitchener, Ont.) looking to dethrone the champs. Durham is the two-time defending OCAA Champions and have won five of the last six titles. The Lords have also strung together a winning streak over OCAA opponents of 27 games, dating back to last season.
