DC Women’s Volleyball Bounces Back with a 3-0 Sweep
Women’s Volleyball – Durham defeated La Cite 3-0 (25-13, 26-24, 25-22)
Oshawa, Ont. – After dropping their home opener on Friday night, the Durham Lords women’s volleyball team was able to rebound on Saturday afternoon as they swept the La Cite Coyotes 3-0 (25-13, 26-24, 25-22). The victory marked Shane Christopher’s first conference victory as head coach of the Lords.
Durham looked sharp in the first set as they almost doubled up the Coyotes, winning by a score of 25-13. The next two sets were a lot closer but the Lords would end up with the win none the less, as they moved to 1-1 in the regular season. The Coyotes dropped to 0-2 to start the season.
Mandi Doris had another solid outing for Durham as she led all scorers with nine points (6 kills, 3 blocks). Kristen Conner and Kary Fatherby also looked sharp as they scored six points a piece. Leading the Lords defence was Melissa Reinhardt who had 12 digs. In her first two matches with the green and gold, Reinhardt has recorded a total of 32 digs. Annie Cadieux was the leading scorer for La Cite with 8 kills.
Durham will now take on the Niagara Knights in exhibition action on Tuesday, October 7 at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre. Game time is at 6 p.m.
