Lords Lose for the First Time Since 2001

Women’s Soccer: Seneca defeated Durham 2-0

North York, Ont. –
The Seneca Sting  came up with a 2-0 shutout victory over the Durham College women’s soccer team on Saturday afternoon, handing the Lords their first regular season loss since the 2001 season. Prior to today’s match, Vaso Vujanovic’s squad had gone 51-0-3 in the regular season since the start of the 2002 season.

The Lords streak of winning six regular season titles is also in jeopardy as Seneca (7-1-1) now jumps into first place in the region with 22 points, while Durham (6-1-2) falls to second place with 20 points on the year.

Both teams have two games remaining in the regular season before heading into the quarterfinals. The first place team will have home field advantage in the quarterfinals while the second place team will have to travel to the winner of the West Region, which will most likely be Fanshawe (London, Ont.) or Conestoga (Kitchener, Ont.).

Seneca did a good job of shutting down the league’s top offense as they picked up their third consecutive shutout. Sabrina Henry and Megan Halley scored two first half goals for Seneca, allowing the Sting to go into a defensive shell and pick up the important win in the standings.

The Lords will now travel to Centennial on Monday, October 6 before heading home to wrap up the regular season on Wednesday, October 15 at Vaso’s Field. Kick-off for both games is at 6 p.m. Seneca will play Centennial and Loyalist in their remaining two games of the regular season.
