Lords Double Up the Knights in DC’s First Win of the Year
Women’s Basketball – Durham defeated Fleming 68-34
Peterborough, Ont. – The Durham Lords women’s basketball team picked up their first win of the season with a 68-34 win over the Fleming Knights on Wednesday night.
It was a total team effort for Durham in Peterborough with nine players scoring points, with the team posting a 42.5 shooting percentage from the floor in the first half. The Lords also dominated the boards in the game out rebounding Fleming 60-34.
Jill Leistra (Chatham, Ont.) was one rebound short of a double-double on the night as she scored 12 points and nine rebounds. Leistra also had a solid defensive game with two steals leading to points.
Also leading the way for Durham was Samantha Jansen (Cambridge, Ont.) with 11 points. Ashley Visser (Uxbridge, Ont.) looked impressive in her season debut as she recorded ten points and six rebounds. Visser joined the team following the conclusion of the varsity soccer season last weekend. Kim Slack (Ajax, Ont.) had her best game of the year with eight points on the night while freshman Natasha Galick (Orangeville, Ont.) added six points and five assists in the win.
It was the Lords best performance of the year as they picked up their first win in seven games this season. The Lords move to 1-1 in conference play with a 1-6 overall record.
Durham will return to Oshawa on Tuesday, November 4 to take on the defending OCAA silver medalists Seneca College. Tip-off at the CRWC for summer camp night is at 6 p.m.
