Humber College Wins the 2008 Killer Instinct Cup

Oshawa, Ont. –
It was an all Toronto final at the 2008 men’s volleyball Killer Instinct Cup on Saturday as the Humber Hawks met up with the Seneca Sting in the tournament finals at Durham College. After the final whistle, it was Humber who would walk away with the title with a 3-0 sweep over Seneca in the finals.

To advance to the finals, the Hawks pulled out a 3-1 victory over Mohawk in the final game of the round robin on Saturday. Mohawk had entered the tournament as the three time defending Killer Instinct Cup champions.

After going 0-2 on day one of the tournament, Durham was able to bounce back with two wins to finish the day in fifth place. The Lords defeated a pair of East Region opponents as they beat the Cambrian Golden Shield 3-0 and the Loyalist Lancers 3-1.

Top players in the tournament were honoured following the championship game. Markus Poldma of Humber was named MVP while teammates Derrick Quinn and Paul Kemboi were named all-stars. Other players receiving all-star recognition were Steven Pawelczyk (Mohawk), Steve Regier (Niagara), Mike Haines (Seneca) and Brian Archibald (Seneca).
