DC Women’s Soccer to Play for Bronze on Saturday
Women’s Soccer OCAA Semi Finals: Humber defeated Durham 2-0
Ottawa, Ont. – The Durham College women’s soccer team’s dream of winning their third consecutive OCAA provincial title came to an end on Friday as the Lords dropped a 2-0 decision to the Humber Hawks in the semi finals.
Durham had trouble pushing the ball forward in the match while Humber capitalized on their opportunities, scoring a goal in each half. Durham goalkeeper Ashley Visser (Uxbridge, Ont.) was busy in over the ninety minutes as she made a number of key stops to keep Durham within striking distance. For her efforts, Visser was named the Lords player of the game.
The league’s top defence (Humber) kept the league’s top offence (Durham) off the scoresheet. For Humber, it was Connie Tamburello scoring at the 24 minute mark and Keyla Moreno scoring at the 65 minute mark to give Humber the 2-0 win. Moreno was named Humber’s player of the game.
The Lords will now take on the Seneca Sting in the bronze medal match on Saturday at 10 a.m. Seneca fell to the Algonquin Thunder 1-0 in Friday’s other semi-final. Saturday’s match will certainly be a heated affair as Durham and Seneca played two tough head-to-head matches during the regular season with the Sting winning the season series over Durham 1-0-1.
