DC Women’s Fastball Sweeps Seneca at Durham Field
Game One: Durham defeated Seneca 9-3
Game Two: Durham defeated Seneca 11-4
Oshawa, Ont. – The Durham College women’s fastball team extended it’s winning streak over OCAA opponents to 23 consecutive games as the Lords swept the Seneca Sting in doubleheader action Thursday night.
On what was a chilly evening at Durham Field, the Lords cruised to the pair of victories winning by a combined score of 20-7, taking game one 9-3 and game two 11-4 (Game recaps below).
In game two of the night, Oshawa native Carolyn Moore was a double shy of hitting for the cycle as she went 4-for-4 with one homerun, two triples and a single, scoring three runs and two RBI's.
Durham is now 7-0 in conference play, a half game ahead of St. Clair College (7-1) in the standings. The Lords and Saints will meet up on Saturday, October 4, as Durham will head down the 401 for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. With two wins over St. Clair on the weekend, Durham would sew up the regular season pennant, which would be their eleventh title in twelve years.
GAME SUMMARIES
Game One
Durham 9 Seneca 3
The Lords took advantage of some Seneca mistakes, as they scored nine runs in the game, but only three of which were earned. Danielle Smith pitched a solid game to pick up the win as both teams battled a cold evening. Smith recorded ten K’s on the night enroute to her third conference victory of the season. The offense was a team effort as the Lords collected ten hits, but only Roelofsen got more than one.

Game Two
Durham 11 Seneca 4
Karie Neddo led the way on the mound as the Lords picked up the victory in game two of the doubleheader. Heads-up base-running was the name of the game as the Lords took extra bases and put pressure on the Seneca defense. The power and gap hitting was also on display as the squad accounted for three inside the park home runs, two of them coming in the four-run fourth inning. That inning was the turning point in the game as Seneca pulled even with Durham 4-4 in the top of the frame, but the Lords responded with four in the bottom to pull away and never look back. Carolyn Moore was a double shy of hitting for the cycle.
