Durham Women’s Fastball Advances to the Provincial Title Game!!!

Game One: Durham defeated Seneca 12-2
Game Two: Durham defeated Mohawk 6-2
Durham advances to the Golf Medal Game on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Windsor, Ont. - The Durham Lords women’s fastball team has booked a spot in the provincial title game with two big wins on day one of the OCAA Women’s Fastball Championship in Windsor on Friday.

The Lords opened up the championship with a 12-2 win over Seneca College and would follow that up with a 6-2 win over Mohawk College, clinching a spot in the gold medal game.

In their semi-final game against Mohawk, it was a rematch of last year’s championship final as Danielle Smith pitched for Durham while Jenny Koschanow threw for Mohawk. Durham had plenty of base runners in the game showing patience at the plate, as Koschanow walked seven Lords hitters enroute to allowing six runs in the game. Smith in the meantime allowed two runs on six hits while striking out nine batters. Karie Neddo picked up the earlier win for Durham over Seneca.

For head coach Jim Nemish and his Lords, it will mark their 12th consecutive trip to the provincial title game, with the team winning eight of their last eleven provincial finals.

Day one of the Women’s Fastball Championships saw one minor upset with #3 seed Mohawk dropping St. Clair in the opening game of the tournament by a score of 9-6. St. Clair would then eliminate Seneca from the Championship in Game three by a score of 9-2.

St. Clair will face Mohawk in the Bronze Medal Game at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the winner advancing to the gold medal game at 1 p.m. vs. the Lords. Durham will have two cracks at winning the provincial title as it is a double knockout format.
