Durham College Heads into the Postseason on a Winning Note - Micucci Moves into Second in OCAA Career Scoring

Women’s Soccer: Durham defeated Fleming 9-1

Oshawa, Ont. –
In their regular season finale at Vaso’s Field, the Durham Lords women’s soccer team easily defeated the Fleming Knights 9-1. Durham will now advance to the OCAA quarter finals where they will take on the West region champion Lambton Lions on Saturday, October 18 at 3 p.m in Sarnia, Ont.

Fleming took an early 1-0 lead in the game scoring at the 11 minute mark on Wednesday night, but it was all Durham after that as they scored nine answered goals for the lopsided victory.

Brittany Micucci (Newmarket, Ont.) added two goals for the Lords, giving her eleven goals this season. Micucci has scored 35 goals in her three year career with Durham, moving her into second place on the OCAA all-time career scoring list. With the pair of goals, she move passed Jessika Popert who scored 34 goals with the Centennial Colts from 1999-2001.

Katie Watts (Oshawa, Ont.), who is not stranger to scoring, netter a single goal for Durham bringing her OCAA record breaking season total to twenty goals. That now secures Watt's as the OCAA scoring champion, Durham's fourth consecutive recipient of the award (Jana Cryderman 2005, Brittany Micucci - 2006, Katie Szeghalmi - 2007).

It was also a night for the freshmen as Joselyn Henning (Bowmanville, Ont.) and Josie Cicciarella (Pickering, Ont.) scored their first goals in the OCAA.

Jennifer Michalicka (Pickering, Ont.) also scored two goals in the match, as she finished with eight goals this season. Freshman Katie Long (Cameron, Ont.) rounded out the scoring for the Lords, netting her fifth goal of the year.

The win on Vaso’s Field extends Durham's home unbeaten streak to 29 games. It will be their last game on home field this season as they will go on the road this weekend looking to book a spot in the OCAA Championship, slated for October 24-25 at Algonquin College.

Durham finishes the year in second place with a 7-1-3 record. Lambton, the Lords quarter final opponent, finished in first place in the West with a 6-3-1 record.
