Durham Finishes the Regular Season with a 2-0 Victory But Fall Short of the Postseason
Men's Soccer: Durham defeated Fleming 2-0
Oshawa, Ont. – The Durham College men’s soccer team pulled out a 2-0 victory against Fleming College on Wednesday, but they would shortly learn a postseason berth was not in the cards as Seneca defeated Centennial 8-1 to jump ahead of the Lords for the final playoff position.
In what is considered by many to be the OCAA’s “group of death”, George Brown (6-1-4) and Seneca (6-3-2) will advance to the quarter finals (this weekend), with Durham (6-4-1) finishing in third place, just one point shy of a playoff position. Centennial finished in fourth place with a 3-6-1 mark.
Knowing that they needed a strong performance to have a shot of making the playoffs, Durham looked strong in the season finale coming out with the 2-0 win. Nick Zdravkovski (Bowmanville, Ont.) managed to capitalize on a pair of Fleming goalkeeper miscues, providing Durham with the two goals needed on the night. For Zdravkovski, it was his seventh and eighth goals of the year, leading all Durham scorers. Oshawa native Andrew MacLeod recorded his third shutout in conference play.
The Lords season is now in the books as they finish with an overall record of 8-4-1 and a conference record of 6-4-1. Despite a strong season in the tough region, the Lords will go home disappointed as they miss out on the postseason for the first time since 2001.
