Durham Plays Niagara College in a Tune Up Game
Women’s Basketball – Niagara defeated Durham 58-53
Welland, Ont. – The Durham Lords traveled to Niagara College for their annual preseason game against the Knights on Tuesday night. In a back and forth contest, the Lords came up short as they were defeated 58-53.
The Lords had trouble converting from the free throw line as they were 7-for-13, showing some early season kinks from the charity stripe.
Second year starter Erin Emery led the Lords with 20 points in the game while freshman, Samantha Jansen, recorded 19 points for Durham, 12 of which were three pointers. Head coach Tim Baulk (ChPC) will look to Jansen for a three-point presence this season, something his lineup was lacking in his first year with the Lords. In 2007-08, Durham recorded only 14 shots from beyond the arc in 14 games.
The Lords will now head to Barrie on the weekend for the Georgian Invitational tournament (Oct. 17-18) before returning to Oshawa for the 2008-09 home opener vs. the Loyalist Lancers on Tuesday, October 21. Tip-off at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre is at 6 p.m.
