Best of Three Series Tied at 1-1
Windsor, Ont. – It will all come down to one game for the Durham College men’s baseball team on Sunday as they meet the St. Clair College in game three of the CIBA Ontario Finals. The Lords and Saints split the first two games in Windsor, putting them in the final game situation for a berth in the CIBA National Championship.
With a series win, the Lords would automatically qualify for the National Championship in Montreal next week set to take place from October 17-19. However, if the Lords lose, they would have to wait to see if they gain entry with one of the two wildcard spots in the National tournament hosted by McGill University.
Note: Durham has won the CIBA Ontario Championship in three consecutive seasons.
GAME SUMMARIES
GAME ONE
St. Clair 4 Durham 3
Durham starting pitcher Julian Daligadu was on fire for the beginning of game one holding St. Clair hitless for the first five innings. The Lords scored three runs in the first inning off St. Clair pitcher Matt Rustulka to gain an early advantage. St. Clair would cut into the lead in the sixth inning scoring two runs, as they would go into the final inning down a run. This set the stage for St. Clair’s last at bat.
Michael Cardinale singled with one out and Rustulka followed with hard hit to right field. Cardinale scored from first base and Rustulka ended up on third base with a stand-up triple to tie the game at 3-3. Dale Kryway then produced a sacrifice fly to centerfield and Rustulka raced home with the game winning run.
Durham had plenty of chances to put the game away as the team totaled for 11 hits and nine walks, but the team could not cash in runners on base after the first inning.
