Comeback Win for DC Women’s Volleyball – Home Opener set for Friday Night

Women’s Volleyball: Durham defeated Loyalist 3-2 (25-23, 20-25, 20-25, 25-22, 18-16) *Exhibition Match

Belleville, Ont. –
The fans in attendance at the Lancerdome Wednesday night were in for a great show as the Durham Lords faced Loyalist College in women’s volleyball action. The exhibition match would end up going the distance as DC managed to pull out a 3-2 marathon win over the Lancers. Set scores were 25-23, 20-25, 20-25, 25-22, 18-16.

Durham head coach Shane Christopher commented that he was pleased with the team’s resiliency in the late stages of the game as they were able to erase a 2-1 deficit. “It was a good early season test for our team early,” noted Christopher. “We started out flat but our players were able come together in the end for the win.”

In what was a total team effort as the Lords found scoring from a number of positions on the court. Team captain Amanda Doris (Ajax, Ont.) led the way in total points with 11 scored on the night (6 kills, 4 blocks, 1 ace). Veterans Kristen Conner (Oshawa, Ont.) and Amanda Falzon (Whitby, Ont.) also had impressive outings scoring nine and eight points respectively.

It was not just the returning players making an impact on the scoresheet as freshmen Kerri Fotherby (Newcastle, Ont.) scored ten total points (9 kills, 1 block) while Kourtney Cyr (Uxbridge, Ont.) recorded seven kills along with tens digs in the back court.

The Lords were perfect in the preseason with a 2-0 record. They will begin conference action on Friday, October 3 as the Algonquin Thunder travel to Oshawa to take on the Lords in their 2008 home opener. The first 100 fans at Friday night’s game will receive a free schedule magnet presented by Lovell Drugs.
