Triple Bronze for Durham at the OCAA Provincial Golf Championship!!!
Team Competition: Durham finished in Third Place
Individual Competition: Durham's James Hoffman and Robert Lewis finished in a tie for third place
Morrisburg, Ont. – It was a big day for the Durham College men’s golf team at the 2008 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Provincial Golf Championship as the Lords were able to capture the bronze medal in the overall team competition.
Durham golfers also captured two bronze medals in the individual competition as James Hoffman (Ajax, Ont.) and Robert Lewis (Cobourg, Ont.) finished in a four-way tie for third place, shooting a two-day total of 149 strokes.
The Durham team locked up their eleventh overall team medal and seventh in eight years at the provincial championship with an impressive performance at the tournament. Trailing heading into the final round, the Lords closed the gap on the second place Niagara Knights to just three strokes, but just fell short as they were unable to jump ahead into the silver medal position. Durham shot a team total of 609 over the two rounds of play. Humber College would end up winning their third consecutive provincial crown finishing in first place with a two-day total of 588 strokes.
Individually, Mike Zizek of Humber College captured the gold medal shooting the low round on both days with a combined score of 141. 2007 CCAA National Champion James Castle finished in second place with a total of 146.
James Hoffman of the Lords shot the second lowest score in round two (73), to move up into a tie for third place with teammate Rob Lewis, who was consistent in the tournament shooting rounds of 74 and 75 to finish with a total of 149. Also finishing at 149 and in the bronze medal position was Brett Pearl of Humber and James Dorion from St. Clair.
Teams will now turn their attention to the CCAA National Championship taking place from October 13-17. The championship will be hosted by Holland College in Charlottetown , P.E.I. with the Foxmeadow Golf and Country Club being the championship course. Durham finished in sixth place at the 2007 National Championship.

CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT
The men’s team championship will consist of five player teams competing in 36 holes of stroke play with the top four individual scores counting toward the team total. Team play after the first round will be divided to Division I and Division II. The top half of the teams (including ties) will move to Division I and the remaining teams will be in Division II. The women’s team championship will consist of three player teams competing in 36 holes of stroke play with a minimum of two individual scores counting towards the team total.
