Sheridan Crowned Big 8 Champions

Oshawa, Ont. – The Sheridan Bruins captured the Durham College Big 8 Classic tournament title on Saturday with a big win over Fanshawe College in the finals. The defending OCAA champions looked very impressive in all three games as they outscored their opponents 219-135 enroute to the tournament title.

The Bruins saved their best performance to the championship final as they knocked off the Falcons 70-38. Nakia Arthur would lead all scores with 16 points in the finals, as she would go on to be named tournament MVP.

In the consolation finals, it was the Jamestown Jayhawks coming up with the win as they defeated the George Brown Huskies 57-37. George Brown had defeated the Durham Lords 66-63 in a hard fought overtime to advance to the consolation round.

All-Stars were announce following the conclusion of the tournament. Recipients included Kari Barmore of Jamestown, Brenda Carachure of George Brown, teammates Alison Griffiths and Stephanie Casperzik of Fanshawe and Jeralyn Espiritu of Sheridan.
