Lords Send Grizzlies into Hibernation
Women’s Volleyball: Durham defeated Georgian 3–0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-23)
Oshawa, Ont. – The Durham Lords women’s volleyball team was able to pick up a convincing win on home court, sweeping Georgian College 3-0 in OCAA league play Thursday night.
The Lords played strong throughout the entire match as they won in straight sets (25-22, 25-21, 25-23). The team gave the Grizzlies trouble all night from the service line combining for an impressive six aces.
Mandi Doris (Ajax, Ont.) led the way in scoring for the Lords with a total of 17 points, in her best performance of the season. Amanda Falzon (Whitby, Ont.) and Kristen Conner (Oshawa, Ont.) were also healthy contributors on the scoresheet scoring 12 and 10 points respectively. The defensive standouts for Durham were Conner, Kourtney Cyr (Uxbridge, Ont.) and Melissa Reinhardt (Port Perry, Ont.) who all tallied eight digs on the night.
With the win, Durham gets their first official conference win of the season and now have a record of 1-4. Georgian drops to 2-4 in conference play this season.
Brother Andre Catholic School was in attendance at the game, with the Eagles school choir singing the national anthem as well as between set breaks.
The Lords will now head to London this weekend for an exhibition series against the Mohawk Mountaineers and Fanshawe Falcons. Their next conference game will be at Seneca College against the Sting on Tuesday, November 18.
Durham's next home action will be on Thursday, November 20 when the Loyalist Lancers pay a visit to the CRWC with first serve at 6 p.m.
