DC Women’s Basketball Holding a Toy Drive
Oshawa, Ont. – Durham College basketball fans are encouraged to bring toys to the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre on Tuesday, December 2, when the Durham Lords women’s basketball team takes on the St. Lawrence College Vikings at 6 p.m. Fans can bring a new unwrapped toy and receive free admission to the game. All of the toys collected on the night will be donated to the SickKids foundation.
Tim Baulk, head coach of the women’s team commented, “This is a great way to raise funds and awareness for children who are less fortunate at this time of year. It’s a great opportunity for Durham College to reach out and assist our community.”
SickKids has compiled a list recommended items for the holiday toy drive to assist participants in focusing on gifts that are necessary. Four different groups that have been targeted for the drive are: infants, toddlers/preschool, school age and teenagers. Infants and teens are being focused on as they are listed as the highest priorities.
The SickKids Foundation is the largest non-governmental granting agency in child health in Canada. SickKids have invested the community's contributions in world-leading children's health research and care and believe there is no one else in Canada as dedicated as they are to eliminating the gap between what is happening in child health research, education and training, and what should be happening.
We hope to see a large number or participants come out and support the cause while enjoying the basketball game. On behalf of the Durham Lords women’s basketball team, we would like to thank you for your support and wish you a safe and happy holiday season. For more information on the toy drive, you can contact head coach Tim Baulk at dcwomensbasketballheadcoach@yahoo.ca.
