OCAA Indoor Soccer Championship Results - Lords shutout in the medal round
Vaughan, Ont. – After going 7-0-0 heading into the final day of the OCAA Women’s Indoor Soccer Championship, the Durham Lords were shutout of the medals after losing two games on Friday afternoon, finishing in fourth place in Ontario.
The Lords began the day off with a 1-0 shootout loss to the defending OCAA Indoor Soccer Champion Fanshawe Falcons in the semi-finals. In the Bronze medal game, the Lords were blanked 2-0 against the Conestoga Condors, who won their first indoor soccer medal in thirteen years.
The Humber Hawks completed the OCAA soccer sweep as they defeated Fanshawe 2-0 in the gold medal game, clinching the indoor and outdoor soccer titles this year.
This is the first time since 2002 that the Lords have gone two years with out winning a medal at the OCAA Indoor Soccer Championship.
Friday’s semi-final match was intense with the goalkeepers stealing the show. Kylie Bracken (Ajax, Ont.) started in net for Durham, replacing Ashley Visser (Uxbridge, Ont.) who was out with an illness. The game was scoreless in regulation/overtime and a shootout was needed to break the tie. In the shootout, Fanshawe would convert on three of four attempts, while Durham missed all three shots.
In the bronze medal game, Durham once again could not find the back of the net, while the Condors scored at the 17 and 30 minute marks to win by a final score of 2-0.
For her efforts throughout the two-day event, Durham freshman Katie Watts (Oshawa, Ont.) was named to the championship all-star team.
