Lords women’s volleyball clinches a playoff spot

Women’s Volleyball – Durham defeated Cambrian 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 26-24)

Oshawa, Ont. – The Durham College women’s volleyball team clinched a playoff berth on Sunday with a 3-0 sweep over Cambrian College. The Lords went 3-0 this past week, including weekend sweeps over Boreal and Cambrian, both of who are from Sudbury.

Sunday’s match was much closer than the 3-0 stat line would indicate as set scores were 25-23, 25-22 and 26-24, but the Lords did what they had to do to pick up their 12th win in their last 13 matches.

Moving closer to the OCAA all-time career block total, Mandi Doris (Ajax, Ont.) picked up two blocks in the game, bringing her career total to 144. Doris is now three blocks behind the all-time leader Tracey Smith (Niagara College) who had 147 in four seasons in the OCAA. Doris also finished the match with 11 kills.

Picking up 12 points of total offense was Kristen Conner (Oshawa, Ont.) with nine kills, two aces and one block. Conner has now recorded ten or more points in her last five consecutive games and is now leading the East Region in kills this season with 187. Keri Fotherby (Newcastle, Ont.) had a good game for DC with six kills, two aces and one block.

Durham is now 12-5 on the season and sits comfortably in third place in the East Region. Sunday’s game was the Lords regular season home finale, but if the team finishes in any of the top four spots of the region, they will be inline to host a playoff match. DC will travel to Fleming on Tuesday for a game against the Fleming Knights (1-12).
