Lords Thinking Pink during hoop action Friday Night
Women’s Basketball: Georgian defeated Durham 62-54
Oshawa, Ont. – Green and Gold is traditionally the colours you would see inside the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre during a Durham College basketball home game, but on Friday night the fans were seeing pink as the Lords held their inaugural THINK PINK game, as they looked to create awareness and funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
The Lords raised money by selling special pink t-shirts, pink ribbons, baked goods as well as holding raffles throughout the night. The team will continue selling shirts for $15 throughout the year and up until the 2009 OCAA Basketball All-Star games, which will take place at Durham College from February 27-28. T-shirts can be purchased at the Lords final home game of the season (Feb. 13) or by contacting the Athletic Department at 905-721-2000 Ext. 2784.
On the court, the Lords and Grizzlies played a very tight game. At one point, it looked as if DC were headed to their third win of the year, as they held a nine point lead (41-32) in the second half. Things quickly fell apart for the Lords as Georgian would storm back and outscore the Lords 30-13 the rest of the way to pick up the eight point victory.
Durham struggled from the floor the entire game shooting only 25 per cent. The Lords however did generate a lot offense from the free throw line as they shot 16-for-22. Jill Leistra (Chatham, Ont.) was the Lords top player scoring eight points and adding seven boards. Veteran Summer Bly of the Grizzlies was the top scorer for Georgian with 25 points in the game.
Durham will look to regroup on Wednesday, February 4 as they travel to St. Lawrence College for a 6 p.m. tip off.
