Lords pull off the comeback win – Doris makes OCAA history

Women’s Volleyball – Durham defeated Trent 3-2 (15-25, 18-25, 25-20, 25-20, 15-11)

Oshawa, Ont. – The Durham College women's volleyball team was able to overcome a 2-0 deficit on Tuesday night to pick up a big 3-2 win over Trent University at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre. History was also made as DC captain Mandi Doris (Ajax, Ont.) set the OCAA single season block record as she picked up her 66th block of the year.

Heading into the game, Doris had 60 blocks on the season, trailing the previous record holder Courtney Warren (Mohawk College - 2003/04) by just one. Doris smashed the record on Tuesday night as she nailed down six blocks to put her at a total of 66 on the year. In her career, Doris now has 142 blocks, five behind the all-time leader Tracey Smith (Niagara College) who had 147 in four seasons with the Knights. Doris will look to become the all-time leader at home this weekend with back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday.

In the match against the Excalibur Tueday night, Durham came out flat as they fell behind 2-0 (15-25, 18-25). The Lords managed to regroup after the early setback as they won back-to-back sets of 25-20 to knot the match up at two games apiece. DC would carry their momentum into the fifth and final set as they won by a score of 15-11 to pull out the comeback win.

Kristen Conner (Oshawa, Ont.) continued her excellent play as she racked up 15 kills against the Excalibur. With 171 kills this season, Conner ranks first in that category in the entire OCAA.

On the defensive side of the court, Melissa Reinhardt (Port Perry, Ont.) and Meghan Renwick (Brooklin, Ont.) had an impressive nights as they picked up 14 and 13 digs respectively.

Durham is now 10-5 on the year and is in third place in the East Region. Trent drops to 7-6 this season and is fighting for one of the final six playoff spots. DC will host a pair of teams from Sudbury on the weekend as they take on Boreal on Saturday, January 24 (3 p.m.) and Cambrian on Sunday, January 25 (12 p.m.).
