DC men’s volleyball picks up a win over Trent

Men’s Volleyball – Durham defeated Trent 3-1 (25-17, 32-30, 20-25, 25-20)

Oshawa, Ont. – The Durham College men’s volleyball picked up an important 3-1 victory over Trent University of Tuesday night, as they now move into a tie for third place in the East Region  standings with the Excalibur.

Tonight’s match-up was very close, with both teams looking sharp throughout the night. After winning the first set 25-17, the Lords squeaked out another winning the marathon second set by a score of 32-30. After dropping the third set 20-25, the Lords were able to rebound and picked up a 25-20 victory to take the match 3-1.

Making his home debut, PJ Cornelius scored 15 kills and added 10 digs. In his three games with Durham, Cornelius is averaging 12 kills per match. Also having impressive nights for DC was Kevin Horne and Dave McMann who had 10 points apiece.

Both Durham and Trent now have nine wins on the year and are battling it out in the standings. Earlier this season, Trent defeated Durham by the same score (3-1), therefore if the teams end up tied after the regular season, the team’s overall set win/loss ratio in all matches played will determine the tie breaker.

DC will look for similar play at home this weekend as they are set to host a pair of teams from Sudbury. The Lords will take on Boreal on Saturday, January 24 (5 p.m.) and Cambrian on Sunday, January 25 (2 p.m.).
