ONTARIO CHAMPS LAND A NUMBER NEW RECRUITS

OSHAWA, Ont. –
Durham Lords women soccer head coach Vaso Vujanovic is pleased to announce the addition of several new recruits that will join the Lords for the 2008-09 season. Set to join the team in September will be Katie Watts (Oshawa, Ont.), Pamela Ogle (Ajax, Ont.), Amie Farely (Peterborough, Ont.) and Kylie Bracken (Ajax, Ont.).

The new recruits will look to fill the void in the lineup left by the exit of seven starters from last season’s Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Championship and National bronze medal winning squad.

Katie Watts has great potential to step into the shoes of Katie Szeghalmi (Oshawa, Ont.), last year’s CCAA national player of the year. She is a very skillful player with outstanding speed, allowing her to play any forward or middle field position. Katie spent seven years with the Oshawa Turul soccer club and has developed into a great offensive player. For the last few years, she has played for Oshawa Kicks and was top scorer in the league. She has earned many awards during her playing career to date and looks to continue her success in the OCAA.

Pamela Ogle is a transfer from Cape Breton University, where she was a member of the CIS championship Capers in her first year of play. She played and developed as a strong defender with the Ajax Soccer Club. For the past three seasons, Ogle has also played for the U21 Ajax Inferno team with her team advancing to Provincial League. Pamela will join the Lords defensive unit which is one of the best in the province, as they did not allow a goal in twelve consecutive games last season. Coach Vujanovic is confident that Ogle will help to uphold the traditional tough and strong defending combination on the Lords back line.

Amie Farely, a Peterborough City Club product, is a very skillful and strong defender who will join Ogle on the Lords defensive line. She was instrumental in helping her High School team (Holy Cross) win the OFSAA championship last year. Vujanovic describes her as a great overall athlete who will be a great asset to the Lords team.

Kylie Bracken is set to be the Lords goalkeeper of the future. She possesses great control in the 18 yard box with her height of 5’11” and also has a fearless approach to goalkeeping challenges. She will provide great back up to fifth year veteran Ashley Visser (Uxbridge, Ont.), who is entering her final year. A product from Ajax Soccer Club, Bracken has earned numerous achievements during her soccer and other sports careers.

“I am looking forward to working the blend of veterans and new recruits, as this combination will renew my vision for a tough, skillful and competitive Durham College women’s soccer team for this fall,” commented Vujanovic on the upcoming season. “We have developed a proud, winning tradition at the College and we hope to continue the success this season.”

The Lords will begin their title defense Saturday, September 6 as they host the Cambrian Golden Shield at 1:00 p.m. on campus.
