Ryan
Hughes was born in Oshawa in 1969 and began what would
become an amazing collegiate athletic career at
Durham College in 1988. The outstanding local golfer,
wasted no time establishing himself in the OCAA
Golf world, by capturing the Individual Gold Medal
and leading his team to the school's first ever
OCAA Golf Championship in 1988. He would repeat
the accomplishment again the following year as Durham
won back-to-back OCAA Golf titles in 1988 &
1989. The Business Administration graduate won his
record tying third consecutive OCAA Individual Gold
Medal in 1990. Ryan then accomplished what no other
collegiate golfer has ever done, when he won his
unprecedented fourth consecutive OCAA Gold Medal
- a record that will most likely never be broken.
Upon graduation, the Golden touch continued for
Ryan as he coached the Durham Golf program to another
two OCAA Golf Championships in 1992 and 1995. All
in total - 8 OCAA Championship Gold Medals both
as a player and as a Coach.
