a) To recognize and honor the achievements of Durham College
individuals who have attained prominence and distinction in a sport offered at Durham College,
and those who have made a major contribution to the development and advancement of athletics
at Durham College.
b) To permanently record and give public prominence to the achievements
of such individuals in a public display centre.
Classification of Inductees
There shall be three classes of induction into the Durham College
Sports Hall of Fame:
1. Player 2. Coach 3. Builder*
*Builders shall be considered an individual who has contributed
to the growth and development of Athletics at Durham College.
Eligibility
Nominees who by outstanding achievement have attained prominence
in a sport at Durham College, or who have brought honor to Durham
College are eligible for election to the Durham College Sports
Hall of Fame.
a) Player candidates must have concluded their careers as active
players for a minimum of three years before their election,
except where, by reason of outstanding prominence and skill
and upon the request by the Selection Committee, made in advance,
the Selection Committee may reduce such waiting period. Candidates
in the Student Athlete category must be a graduate of a full-time
program at Durham College.
b) Coaches/Builders may be either active or inactive at the
time of their selection. Coaches must have coached for at least
5 years to be eligible for induction after coaching or 10 years
minimum while still active as coach.
General Criteria for Election
Candidates for election shall be chosen on the basis of player
ability, sportsmanship, character,
contribution to their particular sport, the honor brought to
Durham College and to sport generally.
