Joanna
Van Dyke was born in Bowmanville in 1977 and
began her outstanding collegiate career at Durham
in 1995, following many highschool achievements
at Clarke High School. Joanna made an instant
impact in her first year as an exceptional two sport
athlete. As a member of both the DC Fastball
and Volleyball teams, she was named OCAA League
all-star on several occasions and was the driving
force behind DC’s Nationally Ranked success.
Joanna was a 3-time OCAA Champion (Fastball in 1997-98
& 1998-99 and Volleyball in 1998-99); and a
Silver Medalist in Volleyball in 1996-97.
Her remarkable 4 year collegiate career saw her
recognized at the elite provincial level and national
level. She was named the OCAA Female Athlete
of the Year in 1998-99, named a Volleyball CCAA
All-Canadian in 1997-98, selected as a CCAA National
Volleyball Championship Tournament All-Star in 1998-99;
twice was named Durham College’s Female Athlete
of the Year (1997-98 & 1998-99); and in
February 2001, she had her #3 DC Volleyball Uniform
officially retired, to the rafters in recognition
of her significant achievements at Durham College.
Of special note in 2000, Joanna was named to the
OCAA Women’s Volleyball All-Millennium Team, recognizing
her as one of the twelve best players in the history
of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association.
