Gary Polonsky was born in
Port Arthur, Ontario in 1942 and he began an outstanding
career as President of Durham College in 1988.
His overall leadership provided Durham College with
a strong foundation to grow and succeed. This growth
and success is very evident in the area of Intercollegiate
Athletics at Durham College. A staunch supporter of
all student activities, he certainly has not hidden
the fact that sports are dear to his heart. His
active participation as a fan of the program has always
been evident and well recognized by all involved - especially
the student-athletes who see their President cheering
them on .
Gary
has also provided the supportive environment at Durham
College and personal support for the institution to
grow not only in Ontario but across Canada. This was
accomplished by supporting proposals to host major National
College events; supporting the principle of attracting
Centre of Excellence groups such as national teams,
Toronto Raptors etc. and taking an active role in the
selection of Durham College as an event site for the
Toronto 2008 Olympic Bid package. A nationally
ranked program does not develop overnight. It comes
from a great deal of hard work. The President of Durham
College epitomizes this hard work day in and day out.
This philosophy will continue to keep Durham on the
National map - in solid bold letters.
