Dave
Cutler was born in Oshawa in 1949 and he began his
time at Durham College in 1983 as the Head Coach of the DC Women’s
Basketball program. He quickly showed the golden touch by leading
the Lords to a gold medal in just his first year in the OCAA
(1983-84). He then led his Lords women’s squad to a second
consecutive gold medal in 1984-85 with a stellar season. Shortly
after that he was brought on board to lead the DC Summer Basketball
Camp for Children. A role that he has served for over 17 years
at the college each summer. His leadership, dedication and desire
to teach the great game of basketball to children is unsurpassed
in the province.
He
is one of the key reason’s the DC Summer Basketball
Camp is continually full with participants. This success garnered
the camps being recognized by Durham Parent Magazine as the
“Best Children’s Sports Camps in Durham Region”.
After his success with the women’s program, Dave returned
to lead the Men’s Basketball program in 1986-87 and
guided the Lords to a championship silver medal season. He
would guide the Lords to a Final Four finish in the next year.
His success with the Varsity program is well noted, while
his long term commitment to our award winning summer basketball
program continues today.
