Dave
Dobson was born in Pembroke in 1953 and began his
involvement at Durham College as the Head Coach of the
Men’s Volleyball Program in 1977. Known as “Mr.
Volleyball” in the Durham Region, the long-time teacher
with both the Durham Board and Kawartha Pineridge Boards
of Education, has contributed over 20 years of involvement
with Durham College Athletics. While at Durham
College, he coached the Men’s Volleyball program for ten
years, winning several OCAA silver & bronze medals,
including an Ontario Gold in 1987. His Lords teams
regularly contended for
the OCAA Championship. He has been awarded the OCAA Coach
of the Year Award - 4 times as well as being recognized
by both provincial and national coaching associations
for his dedication to the sport of volleyball.
His
devotion to the game over the years and dedication to
the improvement of DC student-athletes has always
been present and led to the Lords developing a Nationally
Ranked program. Of special note, he was instrumental
in organizing, developing and growing the
very popular DC Summer Volleyball Camp for Children. In
addition to his lengthy coaching career at DC, he has
been a source of great support for the Athletic Department
while hosting major events, serving on host committees
(ie. 1990, 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2003 CCAA National Championships
hosted by Durham College), organizing tournaments and
special fundraising projects. Dave sits as the foundation
of Durham College Men’s Volleyball and still supports
the program today!
